Weed Warriors:
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/weed-warriors
We(ed) Care Packages

Weed Day will present a two-part project:
Part 1 Weed Warriors:
How to participate:
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/weed-warriors
Weed Warriors symbolizing everyone together protecting the weeds from any human threats. Also aiming to identify those invasive species, in order to protect cities from the threat of invasives without the use of chemicals but instead, through education. For this project, we plan to use iNaturalist to work with people around the world to identify the weeds that are within the city landscapes. Allowing people to be able to slow down and really observe the plants around them. We want people to understand the value of these everyday weeds thus, we will use the data here to create care packages for the top participants of the project.
Part 2 We(ed) Care Packages
For our We(ed) care packages we will use the data from iNaturalist that we have collected from part one. To go forage the different plants that have been identified in Taiwan to create weed healing ointments. Then we will create a different healing item for each region of plants that have been identified from part one that is available in Taiwan(where we are currently based). We will also create a postcard writing and drawing out all the plants that we have identified with our weed brush that we made from a previous project. Hopefully will be able to send out our care packages and postcards to as many participants as possible!

Weed Day is run by two foraging artists. They are conscious of the current city landscapes and the ways in which humans interact with nature. They make weed tea among other everyday essentials with the foraged weeds. When foraging they choose the more dominant and invasive plants leaving more space for native species resulting in a more biodiverse environment. To them, the weeds speak for the land. Tea is also a huge part of everyday life in Taiwan.
To them, weed tea is the start of the conversation to help people become aware of the environment and its diversity. Every time they make tea it is with a different combination of site-specific plants (usually more than 20 types of plants) thus for every tea they make they write the ingredients to show people the diverse amount of plants that surround us even within the city. They want people to understand that we all depend on microorganisms, insects, plants, and animals to continue to stay alive and healthy.
Past projects have included calligraphy, installations, performances, community projects among others.
The two of them believe that we all as humans need to become the protector of nature‘s biodiversity.
